Thank you for the battery I received in time. I have used it now for more than 750km and I cannot believe the performance it gives me. It gives me an average of 70km with all the weight I carry plus the trailer. I am very happy with its performance.

Hi Leonard
The front hub kit was fitted to a re-re-incarnated early 26”hardtail (it went from geared to singlespeed to ebike- opposite ends of the spectrum). The kit was almost bolt-on; a couple of minor mods were required to the bike to fit the pedal pickup nicely and care needed to route the wiring neatly. A full connector set should really have been provided in the kit to join the battery cable to the controller; I used bullet connectors, but some people may simply twist the wires together – which could be dangerous if they vibrate loose. |

I fitted the brakes (as supplied with motor override) which I think are valuable for more technical off-road riding where they can control a power surge if the pedals are injudiciously used. The 2 wheel drive effect is nice on clumpy and uneven ground.
The end result looks great and the customer (Wife) is very happy and now threatening to leave me behind on the uphills…

While it was more challenging than I expected to fit the kit and get it all to work the way I wanted, I am extremely happy with the outcome. This is the 4th E-Bike that I have owned and by far my favourite. The others were all ready made - 2 Ezee Torq’s and 1 Giant.
Buying a kit, gave me much more flexibility in terms of the bike specifications and I really got out what I wanted. The performance far exceeded my expectations and I am going up hills not much slower than I ride the flats. I get to my destination significantly quicker and feel much safer as fewer cars pass me.

I have been using the Relectro 250w electric motor and battery system installed on my racing bike for a week now, and it is just great.
Leonard was extremely helpful in answering all my questions, and I had my new motor and battery installed in a matter of days (Dunkeld Cycles did the conversion).
I am now able to get up the hill to Rosebank in the mornings without breaking a sweat, and use my car even less now.

Just been for a decent test ride on Durban’s Berea which is pretty low on flat areas and the bike performed like a pro, handling a 1 in 6 climb with ease just with pedal assist.

As an unfit 71 year old with a history of coronary disease, and a fractured vertebrae, wishing to get back to cycling, I bought a Bacchetta Gyro recumbent two-wheeler.
I started cautiously on the Bacchetta, and was doing ok with short 10 to 15 minute rides averaging about 17Km/h, but I found that starting was tricky and on hills impossible. Crossing busy roads was also a challenge.
I am not supposed to exceed a heart rate of 138 BPM until I get fitter, so when going up steep hills, I found myself having to stop when my heart rate approached 138 BPM.
When I was afforded the opportunity to ride an e-assisted mountain bike suddenly e-assist made perfect sense.
I decided that I would install e-assist on the Bacchetta and I was fortunate enough to find Leonard Stoch.
I explained my situation to Leonard, who I believe has never dealt with a recumbent before - that did not deter him from doing whatever it took to make the project a success.
He described in great detail the options that were available to me. He explained the pros and cons of each option and we settled on a 36V rear hub motor.
Leonard went out of his way to embrace the challenges in assisting with the installation of the kit on the Bacchetta. The kit has been successfully installed and not only is it working perfectly, it is allowing me to overcome the difficulties of starting on hills, crossing busy roads, controlling my heart rate and most of all, it has rolled back the years!
I find myself doing 40Km/h on the flat again and I can choose the degree to which I want to exert myself, all the while maintaining a speed that allows me authority in the traffic.
Dealing with Leonard has been a wonderful experience, and I would not hesitate to recommend him and his company.

Someone referred me to Len at Relectro, I contacted him and he replied almost immediately!
This was followed by a call from Len to clarify things.
He told me that 80km was expected, maybe more, gave me a price and I accepted and posted him my old battery.
Len contacted me once he’d received it and said when he could do it - and true to his word - did it on time and posted it back to me.
I tested it out and got 100km, with the battery still alive!
I am super-happy with this, absolutely worth the money, and it will improve the enjoyment of my tour hugely.
If only every business did business this way.

I purchased 2 e-bikes overseas and after a few months, one of my batteries went dead. I was lucky to come across Relectro and I contacted Len and his team.
They were brilliant in identifying the issue and I had my battery back in a week and was back on the road again.

I recently purchased a 48V 750w e-bike conversion kit from Relectro. It was a real pleasure dealing with Len and the bike works wonderfully.
The power is amazing!
The conversion takes about 2 hours and is pretty straight forward.

I can highly recommend using Relectro for anything related to e-bikes. I came in with a difficult job - a complex, niche bike with a German bike manufacturer and Canadian battery manufacturer, both of whom had gone out of business since I purchased the bike.
Leonard was a pleasure to deal with, carefully explaining all the associated risks and potential costs of rebuilding the battery with unknown and irreplaceable electronics. In the end I had nothing to worry about - the rebuild has been an incredible success, the bike is like new.

After deciding that it was time to try my hand at an e-bike conversion, I was keen to get everything started as soon as possible. After a quick web search, I found that Relectro had the kit/s I was interested in, and was situated close to where I live.
I contacted Leonard on a Thursday with a couple of questions, then again on the Friday evening to confirm a few things. On the Saturday, I made the decision to proceed and sent a message to Leonard. By Sunday morning, Leonard had let me test his wife's bike to get a feel for power, all my questions were answered, and I purchased a kit.
By Sunday afternoon I was cruising the streets on my newly converted bike!
The entire experience was fantastic throughout, with extremely good and prompt communication, excellent product knowledge, and great customer service. This was all during a weekend and outside of Relectro's office hours.
The willingness to help me over the weekend, allow me to borrow the required tools, and being available whenever I had an installation question, was beyond the the call of duty and was extremely generous. On top of that, I got to the last part of the installation and realised I needed a soldering iron to complete the job. Leonard generously offered to assist, and 10 min later he was doing the soldering at no extra cost, on a Sunday afternoon!
I would be happy to do business with Relectro again, and can definitely recommend them for their excellent service.

The motor and battery work perfectly on my converted wheelchair. They have more than enough power for rough terrain and the battery is good for a long ride.
The system took about an hour to install and then the fun began.

I'm really happy with my Giant fold-up e-bike. I am using it to commute to the Gautrain station daily, and it is so much fun to ride. It also feels great to get some cardio in daily. The only issue I've had so far has been punctures. Hopefully with the tire liner, sealant tube, and correctly inflated tire, I won't have too many more of those. The hills in Midrand are tough, but what used to take me 50 minutes on my mountain bike, now takes only 21 minutes on the ebike!
Thanks for the time you took to help me decide between upgrading my e-scooter, retrofitting my mountain bike, or getting a new e-bike. Very happy with the end result.

Hi Leonard,
Some feedback for you... I am happy and impressed. My trip home from work usually takes me 1:35ish for the 30km over Midrand's hills and then I am rather tired from the effort. My 1st trip home from work took me 56 minutes while I only used the throttle on the uphills and a little on the pull away from traffic lights just to get to speed. My second trip was in the peak hour traffic from home to work, same route (reverse direction) and it took me 63 minutes. After the two trips (60km total), the battery was only 1/2 depleted. For comparison I attach speed screen shots of my personal best back in March and now my 1st trip home with assist. You can see the uphill speeds are increased from 10km/h to 30km/h and I never pedaled as hard down the hills as I did on my PB attempt to keep the average speed high. With this assisted ride I am 19 minutes quicker than my PB with half the effort put in. Now I can train twice a day and choose my efforts rather than being hard pressed to max effort every single trip. I am loving this. Kind Regards, Gerrit |

This is the second electric bike that I have sourced through Leonard. The first was straight forward and has run for 2 years with no trouble.
The second is the trike pictured and Leonard has been through the ringer here. Firstly neither of us were sure of what system would really work as the gearing is somewhat peculiar. I changed my mind at least 4 times and Leonard was super patient each time and just kept on quoting. |

Once I settled on a 750watt pedal assist mid-motor I tested Leonard even more. We have now solved all the problems and everything is running very smoothly. Leonard has really earned my praise throughout all the problems that we had to solve and so I couldn't recommend him or Relectro any higher. I hope his business continues to flourish as he earns every bit of praise I can give him.

My bike batteries had worn out after 3 glorious years.

Riding an ebike from RELECTRO has been life changing- the distance and routes that I enjoyed when walking have suddenly expanded now that I can explore urban city scapes on a bike.
We live on a hill and what had put me off a bicycle for a long time was my imagined self image of panting and pushing the bike up the hill. Now me and the Schwinn are partners and figuring this out together -and it's FUN...

I recently acquired 2 of the beautifully customised Johnny Loco bicycles for my wife and me to use in Knysna.
Leonard went out of his way to make sure that I was fully informed of all the options and technology considerations to make sure that I ended up with the right bicycle for my intended purpose.
Whenever we are out and about on our bicycles we get a lot of interest and people wanting to know about the technology and practicality of the bicycles.
We have ridden our bikes extensively all around the town and the bikes cope more than adequately with the hills, albeit it with the odd help from a bit of pedalling. We simply love the ease of use, the effortless ride and freedom we have to go anywhere.
I have easily achieved 30 plus kilometers between charges, albeit riding in a very relaxed manner.

RELECTRO COMMENT: Pete came all the way from Durban to Cape Town to buy two Johnny Locos we had converted to electric - one has a 250W motor and the other a 350W. Both are fitted with 10,8Ah rack batteries. This is a follow up from Pete's earlier communication with us.

From the beginning when I ‘declared’ I wanted a powered bike – I was ripped off by my husband and son.
So on the weekend we went on a ‘long’ ride round the farm.
I zoomed past them with such ease.
When we got home. My husband said – “That power pack really works well, if I get one blaa blaa blaa…” ….Beside a little grunt - from under my breath. I was an excellent wife and did not say a word.
I will sent you some photos when my daughter brings her camera back to work.

Here is a picture of the kit supplied by you, my husband was very impressed by the kit I bought him for Christmas, this kit gave him a lot of pleasure riding with the grand kids and finally he can get around comfortably and enjoy the outdoors. My wife, Marietta is very much enjoying her converted bike. The only problem is, I can`t keep up with her anymore. Formerly, it was just the opposite. She sometimes makes the other cyclist wonder how it could possibly be, that this woman, who doesn't sport defined leg muscles, can out-ride them on the uphills! This is the cause of a lot of private fun of our own!!! Ha-Ha!!! The only two problems I have with the design is that the charger does not switch off automatically (or so I think, according to the instruction), to prevent overcharge, and secondly the LED indication for the remaining battery charge, is not clearly defined. As I am getting older, I might consider converting my bike too, in another 5-10 years. I hope you will still be around by then. I am 68 now. Keep up the name of this excellent and affordable product. I have become completely mobile. I go out everyday to and back from work all over town and visit anyone. I love cycling so this allows me to get out. I can get 30 km on a charge and that's fantastic. I, as you see on the photo, have also done my first cycle event and am going to do anther this weekend. I am planning to have many years of fun and freedom with my RELECTRO e-bike conversion.
